Claymores Soccer Club

Day One by Nichole Jeschelnig

Today started off with a team meeting, and several games of Soccer Tennis soon after. We played a team from South Africa, and although they killed us it was still fun. They seemed really nice, and they were friendly. The boys ended up playing them for their first game, before that however, we all walked to the park where the Football Festival was being held. All the teams got into lines and paraded around the field. People with Videocameras were taping the teams as they walked across the field. There were teams from from a lot of different countries including Germany, South Africa, Norway, and of course Scotland. When every team was at one end of the field the Lord Provost started talking. he welcomed all the teams and officially opened the festival. As it turns out I got to play after all. Right after the opening ceremony, I had to get ready for a game the German girls team. They were all really nice and spoke English, which was really good because i don't know German. They translated everything for me when the coach spoke. I felt like I had been on their team forever. the coach started me at stopper and played me the whole game. I switched positions after after half-time to center left mid. I almost scored a few times. we lost the game but the girls were happy I was there, so was the coach. After my game, the boys game was going to start on another field. They were playing the South African team. Before it started I was interviewed by a Scottish reporter for the Aberdeen Daily Newspaper. Apparently nobody in Scotland had heard of a girl being on a top guys team. Once that was over , the boys game started. They were doing really well at first, but the other team eventually scored. After the first goal the team started hammering ours but our team never gave up. Jeff ended up scoring agoal before half-time. the second half was just like the first except without us scoring another goal. After Coach talked to the team about the game, we walked together back to the place we stayed in and then to dinner. We walked together as a team, ate as a team and left as a team. After dinner everyone did their own thing. Curfew was at 9:30 PM and we all went to bed by 10 PM
